Paula Joan Caplan (July 7, 1947 – July 21, 2021) was an American psychologist, activist, writer, and artist. Paula Caplan was a clinical and research psychologist, known for her early contributions to the feminist critique of psychology. Caplan argued that diagnostic labels in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders are unscientific and pathologize female traits. She served on the American Psychiatric Association's committee for the DSM-IV, but resigned as she disagreed with the inclusion of "Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder".
